I had a sleep in this morning, got my blog ready
and then walked off. No customs, no security - weird! I spotted three large
cruise ships.
Athens is big, busy, noisy, messy in parts, very
affluent in others obviously. I caught a hop-on-hop-off bus with wifi, but that
was pretty poor. It's been a very hot but an interesting drive so far. The most
startling so far has been the waterfront where there are the dozens and dozens
of sparkling white 3 and 4-deck private yachts and cruisers moored in every
available spot. One of them even had a helicopter on the top deck!
I¾ of the way around the 1 ½ hour bus loop I got
wifi in Maccas - for ϵ1 I had a coffee and very good wifi. This is how I found the loo!
I was very glad I didn't have a tour booked here:
it's so hot, which would be worse up at the Acropolis, etc, and besides, we did
that stuff when we were here in 2005. It was nice and quiet back on the ship,
time for a shower, dressing for dinner, Mass.
One of the girls at my table mentioned that she had
got port wifi on deck, so that’s where I am now.
The show tonight was done by a local Greek group; I rarely go to the
shows but always enjoy the ones they bring on board from the local port. This
was no exception – bouzikis, dancers and, of course, they did Zorba - great
fun.
Piraeus by night.
