Saturday 19 August: Up and Away

I made Yvonne a coffee and we had morning tea before a final check and closed the suitcase. We left about 10.45 and were at the airport about 11.20, very early but it was great – no crowds, immediate check-in and only a 5 minute wait at Security. I wasn’t successful in getting the laptop to find the free airport wifi but did get it through the phone, so I checked emails then started to read “The Keeper of Lost Things”, our book club book. Boarding was quick and the seats are comfy. I had my typical snooze up to take-off and then off to sleep again as soon as we were in the air. The A380 moves so slowly down the runway and takes off effortlessly: you hardly know you’re in the air.

The flight was comfortable; I slept for about an hour, there were two meals, countless drink trolleys and I watched “Beauty and the Beast”. So the 8 hours wasn’t too bad. We arrived at Changi one minute early and I had a 4-1/2 hour layover.
